Cathedral Hill is an urban infill project that exemplifies socially responsible investing.

When it went to market, Cathedral Hill fetched the highest average price per square foot in Ottawa, demonstrating that financially successful development can also deliver strong community benefits. In addition to the 22-storey condominium building with luxury penthouse suites and 10 executive townhomes, the development includes a new Community Hall for Ottawa’s Anglican Christ Church Cathedral. Moreover, an innovative long-term land lease arrangement with the Anglican Church ensures the historic Cathedral’s financial stability.

One Planet Living Impact Highlights

Culture and CommunityCathedral Hill delivered a number of important community benefits. It revitalized the neighbourhood by providing residences, including much-needed seniors’ housing, and it gave the Church a new social hall where congregants can gather and socialize. The history and culture of the historic Christ Church Cathedral and bishop’s residence is preserved, and the innovative land lease arrangement helps ensure the long-term viability of the Anglican Church.

Zero Carbon EnergyThe development exemplifies leading sustainability features for high-rise construction. Suites have individual VRF units with integrated energy recovery ventilators (ERV’s) which are highly efficient and increase fresh air directly into suites (a first for Ottawa). Individual metering of hydro and water encourages conservation. A multi-faceted envelope system, with different elements on the west facade where the greatest sun and wind exposure occurs versus the east façade, enhances the building’s thermal and energy performance.

Materials and ProductsAlthough LEED Platinum certification was not one of the project goals, LEED Platinum guidelines and standards were nonetheless followed in selecting all material and products. FSC flooring was used throughout as were locally-sourced, zero off-gassing materials.
