Jonathan Westeinde Executive Chair

Jonathan is the founder and Executive Chair of the Windmill Development Group. He brings vast experience in finance, corporate strategy and business development, with a career focused on advancing high-performance, socially responsible real estate.

Under Jonathan’s leadership, the Windmill team has been directly engaged in over $5B in high performing, socially responsible real estate projects. Jonathan is specifically interested in creating alternative financing vehicles to create ‘planet fit’ real estate assets. He is a recognized leader in Canada for finding innovative solutions for non-conventional lifecycle financing. These include innovative partnerships to create zero carbon district energy systems and energy services contracts to introduce geothermal and green loans.

Jonathan has also played a leading role in developing investment vehicles designed to scale sustainable real estate. Most recently, he co-founded and co-manages the One Planet Living Real Estate Fund, a real estate impact fund which is driving a $1B pipeline of new One Planet Living communities in Canada.

In 2025, Jonathan received the Canada Green Building Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his career-long leadership in sustainable real estate development and his contribution to advancing and scaling zero carbon building in Canada. He was also recognized as one of Canada’s Clean 16 in 2021 for his contribution to clean capitalism and received CAGBC’s National Green Building Leader Award in 2018. He serves on a number of for-profit and non-profit boards.

Before founding Windmill, Jonathan was a founding partner of Venbridge, a venture capital services division of Gowlings, one of Canada’s leading law firms. Before that, Jonathan was CEO and founder of LOSC, Inc., a Boston-based venture capital firm. He also held senior positions with Corel Corporation and Exocom Consulting after completing his MBA at Trinity College, Dublin.
